Assignment description : VISA-AD “International Volunteering in the Service of Others” is a structure for sending, welcoming and supporting young volunteers motivated for social or educational services in France and abroad. Its role as a Union of Associations is to organize, recruit, monitor and train volunteers. We provide administrative support and advice to organizations so that missions are carried out in accordance with the ethics of Volunteering.
Within one of the 4 communities of L'Arche French-speaking Belgium (Brussels, Bierges, Bierges, Namur, Aywaille), you will participate in the support of adults with mental disabilities in their home of life or during leisure activities at their day center.
One of the values of the association is “to be and to deal with” the residents rather than “to do for them”. As a volunteer, you will thus be able to contribute to the development of adults with disabilities by supporting them and sharing moments of daily life.
Your mission will take place in one of the 4 communities in Brussels, Bierges, Namur or Aywaille and you will be welcomed into one of the homes in a caring and friendly environment.

With the support of the teaching team, you help with the support of:
- on the daily life of the people welcomed when they wake up, eat, or go to bed
- leisure activities offered at the home or day center (artistic workshops, gardening, carpentry, sewing, etc.) and during outdoor outings (swimming pool, stroll, circus, cinema)
- individual and collective projects (food purchases, accompanying you to a paramedical appointment, etc.)
You will thus be able to invest yourself in the various activities and live a strong human and community life experience with a team of professionals (educators, psychologists).
You will also contribute to team meetings, meetings with educators, seminars between volunteers and association events.

You will stay in the home in a furnished room financed by the host structure. You will benefit from mandatory PSC1 training, “civic and civic” preparation for departure and educational training upon arrival. You will be supervised by a professional team and supported in the construction of your future project.
