This year Interphaz Europe Direct Lille Métropole (EDLM) is organizing the 8th edition of the Alternative Voyageurs Festival from 19 to 21 September. The Alternative Travelers Festival aims to present travel from another angle, far from the usual routes. The three highlights of this festival will offer an alternative travel story, a celebration of the anniversary of Ireland's accession to the European Union and a reflection on the theme of carbon offsetting.
We are waiting for you all to share these moments of conviviality and exchanges!
Details of the events of the 2023 Alternative Voyageurs Festival:
Ø September 19: Ciné-debate at the Méliès cinema in Villeneuve-d'Ascq (11 rue Traversière, 59650 Villeneuve-d'Ascq), with the screening of the documentary “Solidream” (92min). Three childhood friends decide to go around the world by bike. This documentary film traces their 54,000 km journey from Australia to the Amazon, crossing the plains of Kyrgyzstan. Following the screening, participants will be able to discuss their feelings and share their tips for traveling sustainably.
Ø September 20: Irish evening at the Tir Na Nog pub (30 place Philippe Lebon, Lille) in honor of the 50th anniversary of Ireland's accession to the European Union. It will be an opportunity to discover more about the history and customs of the country. The evening will be punctuated by quizzes, a blind test and exchanges on Ireland.
Ø September 21: Round table on carbon offsetting in partnership with the University of Lille and the Lille Foundation. This round table will take place at the Regional House for the Environment and Solidarity (5 rue Jules de Vicq, 59800 Lille). Technicians and activists will present the rise of mass tourism and the functioning of a carbon offsetting tool.
